Going Door to Door

"Please don't shut me out, please don't slam the door..." Can you sympathize with Princess Anna from Frozen? Have you ever said that to God? Sometimes we pray for a door to open, an opportunity or a relationship, and it never comes around. It's devastating. It makes you doubt. How can we overcome this? I found my answer in Psalm 37:7. I was thinking a lot about doors as I was going back through my old email accounts. I found a block of emails that were ALL job applications, resumes and rejection letters. Talk about desperate! But, that's what I was...DESPERATE. I had no idea what I wanted to do or where God was sending me so I applied for every job I could think of: photographer, food critic, news writer, editor. All the jobs I believed I was qualified to do. But each time the door was slammed in my face with a big fat no or simply locked with nothing but silence. Then, miraculously, a job interview came up that I didn't remember even applying for...teacher's aide. "Ha! I can't be a teacher!" But now here we are three years later and I've been teaching the whole time. God works things that are not into existence. I never wanted to be a teacher, but he orchestrated the whole thing because he knew I needed to be trained. If I had only triedĀ to hear him sooner. During the process of job hunting, I felt lost and desperate. God never feels that way because He gives us purpose and peace. I was relying on myself and my skills, grasping at straws, when instead, I could have had peace knowing that God would carry me to the right door. He would give me the key and smile as I had the faith to walk through it with Him. Together. God doesn't expect us to take on the world alone. He wants to give us wisdom, guidance, and encouragement if we would only be still and listen. "Be still in the presence of the LORD, and wait patiently for him to act. Don't worry..." Psalm 37:7 NLTĀ
